Meta, the company formally known as Facebook that’s been making virtual reality headsets since 2013. Its latest device, the Meta 2, is a high-end all-in-one VR headset that has been updated over the years as new versions of its software have been released.

The company has been working on Project Cambria for quite some time now. The next gen headset was first revealed back in 2017 and it’s believed to be more of a new business and work based high-end headset. The project appears to be similar in design to both the Oculus Quest Pro and the Oculus Rift S, two upcoming devices from Facebook’s Oculus division that were unveiled at GDC 2019.

The question is whether or not Cambria and Quest Pro will actually turn out to be one and the same thing, or if they’re separate products that just happen to look very similar but with diffgerent uses, for instance the Quest Pro will remain a gaming orientated headset, while the Cambria will be a work based device, perhaps utilising the Horizon Work Rooms and the upcoming Infinate Office, which could act as the flagship apps for the new product, thus giving Meta the upperhand in not only tech but software too.

Project Cambria allegendly appears to be an upgraded version of the original Meta 2 headset with improved optics and tracking capabilities; it’s also likely going to support six degrees of freedom (6DoF) tracking like Oculus Quest Pro does.

Meta seems to be positioning Project Cambria as an elevated VR headset compared to the current Oculus Quest 2, but it sounds like it’ll work with the best Oculus Quest 2 games and thus may not be completely split from the Quest brand.

Brad Lynch claims in the video below, that the new headset will be called the Quest 2 Pro and focus primarily on productivity.
